Ariadne Staples is an accomplished attorney with extensive experience in insurance and reinsurance law, specializing in employee benefits insurance, life & health cross-border reinsurance, FMLA and state disability and leave laws, and employee benefits litigation under ERISA, including federal appeals. Ms. Staples’ experience also includes international arbitrations under the ICC and UNCITRAL rules, as well as complex and general litigation.
Immediately prior to joining d’QM Law, Ms. Staples was senior counsel at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (MetLife), where, most recently, she managed legal affairs related to a London-based reinsurance intermediary and counseled on complex expatriate employee benefits plans. During her tenure at MetLife, she negotiated reinsurance treaties with international partners, advised on compliance matters involving OFAC, HIPAA, ERISA, and GDPR, and provided oversight and strategic guidance on both the domestic and expatriate group insurance business, including medical, life and disability insurance matters.
Ms. Staples has extensive ERISA Litigation experience, including supervising, briefing, and arguing numerous circuit court appeals, including the Second, Fourth, Ninth, and Eleventh Circuits, as a member of MetLife’s ERISA employee benefits unit.
Prior to MetLife, Ms. Staples represented clients in international arbitrations, and a variety of general and complex litigation matters. She practiced in New York at O’Melveny and Meyers, LLC and Debevoise and Plimpton, LLC.
