Sophia V. Hepheastou practices in life and annuity interpleaders, Housing Trust Fund Corporation recovery matters, bankruptcy, and general litigation. She has provided legal advice to companies regarding business disputes and debtors in Chapter 11 bankruptcy cases and consumer bankruptcy matters. She has also represented buyers and sellers in residential and commercial real estate transactions.
While in law school, Ms. Hepheastou interned for the Honorable Sean H. Lane of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. Both throughout law school and while in practice, Ms. Hepheastou has worked closely with unrepresented clients through the City Bar Justice Center Bankruptcy Project, helping low-income individuals file Chapter 7 petitions.
In tandem with her volunteer work with the City Bar Justice Center, Ms. Hepheastou has also been a board member of the New York chapter of the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation (I.W.I.R.C.) since 2016, where she acted as the Networking Events Co-Chair role since 2020, and was the Network Co-Chair for several years. In her board role, Ms. Hepheastou organized events, bringing professionals together across the legal, financial, and restructuring industries and provided strategic guidance for the I.W.R.C. New York Chapter.
